Manchester City duo and Chelsea player in shortlist for January – Club assessing options

Bayer Leverkusen have been looking at Manchester City and Chelsea to improve their goalkeeping situation in the winter market.

Kicker cover the latest on Manchester City’s James Trafford and Chelsea stopper Filip Jorgensen.

Earlier this month, claims from Turkey stated West Ham United, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth have all made contact for Jorgensen.

Last weekend, Bayer Leverkusen No.1 Mark Flekken suffered an injury in his side’s 2-0 league defeat to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Janis Blaswich replaced him in the 60th minute.

Kicker state Flekken will be out for an extended period, and this could force the German club to react in January.

The Bundesliga side have already identified Manchester City’s Stefan Ortega as a target, snd have added two new names to their shortlist. This is the 33-year-old German’s club teammate James Trafford and the Chelsea player.

Trafford, 23, returned to the Etihad in July and started the first three Premier League matches this season. He conceded four goals and kept a clean sheet. Towards the end of last window, Manchester City signed Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain.

Pep Guardiola has favoured the Italian ahead of Trafford in the league and Champions League. Trafford is currently the second choice while Ortega is further down the pecking order.

Guardiola had Ortega on the bench in Manchester City’s league win over Wolverhampton Wanderers in August. Since then, the manager has left the German out of his squad.

Filip Jorgensen, also 23, is providing cover to Robert Sanchez at Stamford Bridge. He has been limited to seven appearances, and it includes two league matches this season.

Bayer Leverkusen have Trafford and Jorgensen in their shortlist, along with Ortega. Kicker report they are assessing their options.
