Chelsea fans should be excited at how much football Josh Acheampong has played since the new manager came into the club.
Acheampong has featured in all three games which Liam Rosenior has been in charge of, including starts against Charlton and Arsenal.
It was a frequent criticism fired at Enzo Maresca that he was not utilising the young talent enough. He didn’t feature at all in nine consecutive games in the Premier League late in 2025.

Chelsea have no interest in loaning out Acheampong this month, suggesting he is going to continue to play a big part under the new boss.

Josh Acheampong sees his Chelsea future at centre-back
So far, the England U21 international has featured as a right-back for Rosenior, whereas the majority of his minutes before then had come while playing centre-back.
Despite it being clear where the Englishman would like to use his young talent on the pitch, journalist Ben Jacobs has stated on ‘CFC Gem’s’ X Space that Acheampong sees his future at centre-back.
The presence of Reece James and Malo Gusto in the right-back position would make it difficult for any player to break through and make that position their own.
It perhaps explains why there has been no major appetite to sign a new right-back since the new owners took over, although the same cannot be said for the centre-back role.

Chelsea preparing signing which could really hurt Acheampong’s chances
If Acheampong wants to make it as a centre-back at Chelsea, there is plenty of competition that awaits him already in the squad.
This could be added to if reports are to be believed. Chelsea are pushing for the January signing of Jeremy Jacquet to bolster their options.

There will be questions over where Acheampong will fit into things when Levi Colwill also returns. The money expected for Jacquet does not hint he will be sitting on the bench long.
The future is not bright for the likes of Trevoh Chalobah and Tosin Adarabioyo, although Acheampong still has plenty of time to prove his worth in the heart of defence.
