Marseille has given news of an injury blow on the morning of the French club's Champions League meeting with Liverpool.

The Ligue 1 club issued a statement which confirmed that left-back Emerson Palmieri will miss the game with a thigh problem.

“Medical examinations have revealed a lesion to the defender’s left thigh," the statement said. "The club have not provided a definitive timeframe for his return, stating that the length of his absence will depend on how the injury evolves in the coming days."

Emerson is a key player for Marseille, lining up in 21 games for the southern French club since completing a transfer from West Ham on deadline day last September.
