Tottenham are said to be showing interest in a Premier League midfielder.
Tottenham are said to be interested in a Premier League midfielder as they contemplate adding more depth this month. Spurs are in need of more strength having found themselves in the bottom half of the Premier League for the second successive January.
Thomas Frank has come under serious pressure, but it seems as though the club will back him for now, knowing the squad has deficiencies, especially at a time where injuries are adding up again.
Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus and Richarlison are all out for at least a couple of months, while Dejan Kulusevski is still a couple of weeks away having been out all season. And it’s no secret that Tottenham have had to compete without one of their best players this season in James Maddison.
Conor Gallagher has been brought in to fill the hole left by Bentancur, arriving on a £34million deal from Atletico Madrid, and more arrivals are likely. The attacking line is a particular area of emphasis given the mentioned injuries and the fact Brennan Johnson was sold early in the window.
But a fresh report has claimed Tottenham are showing interest in a Premier League midfielder.
Jones interest
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham are interested in a deal to sign Liverpool star Curtis Jones, holding a long-term interest but not yet making it known to Liverpool.
Jones has featured regularly for Liverpool this season, making 19 Premier League appearances, but the Reds might have a decision to make this summer given Jones is out of contract in the summer of 2027.
If Liverpool don’t offer Jones a new contract by this summer, they would be allowing him to go into the last year of his deal, and that could mean a cheap sale or a free exit down the road. There have been reports that Liverpool will offer him a new deal, and reports of interest could fast-track that process.
Spurs are likely to allow Yves Bissouma to leave at the end of his deal this summer, so it makes sense that they are sounding out midfielders.
Slot praise
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has regularly praised Jones, but his most glowing verdict came in 2024 when the Dutchman said: "He has a lot of qualities on the ball. He is never afraid to do something special with it, but sometimes he touches the ball a bit too much in my opinion because he is so confident.
"But confidence is an important tool. He has an incredibly hard work rate and we trust him in defence. He is complete. For him now, it is all about consistency. The best players turn up every three days and that is what he has got to show."
