Chelsea are getting desperate in their bid to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes this month.
It is thought that Chelsea have a three-man shortlist for the centre-back position and Jacquet is at the top of it.
So far, signing the 20-year-old is proving difficult. According to reports, Rennes want around £60m for Jacquet.

Chelsea seem reluctant to pay such a fee, but as well as that, Rennes do not seem keen on selling him during this transfer window.

Pointless for Chelsea to loan Jeremy Jacquet straight back to Rennes
One route Chelsea are rumoured to be exploring is signing Jacquet now and allowing the Frenchman to remain at Rennes.
Journalist Fabrice Hawkins has claimed on X that the Club World Cup winners are open to purchasing Jacquet before loaning him straight back to Rennes.
That could convince the French outfit to do business this month, but what exactly will it solve for Chelsea? The answer is nothing.

Clearly, the Blues feel that they need a new centre-back to help Liam Rosenior and the team accomplish their goals this season; otherwise, they would not be targeting anyone right now.
Levi Colwill will also be back from injury by the summer, making the need to bring in another centre-half less of an urgency.
To reiterate, then, buying Jacquet now and allowing him to remain at Roazhon Park for the rest of the campaign does not fix anything.

Better centre-back options will be available in the summer
If Chelsea find themselves in a position where they do have to wait until the next transfer window to sign a new central defender, they should be patient and not agree anything with Rennes now. There are going to be more options in the summer.
For example, Marcos Senesi, another defender on Chelsea’s shortlist, could be available on a free transfer.
Nottingham Forest may also be more open to selling Murillo, who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge as well. Both men are more proven than Jacquet and have more experience.
