Liverpool Are‘Ready To Pounce’As They Target The Fastest Player In The Premier League

Liverpool have developed a “keen interest” in Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, according to reports.

The 24-year-old still has three and a half years remaining on his contract but the Daily Mail claim that he is not keen on signing an extension.

That has come to the attention of the Reds who are said to be “ready to pounce” if van de Ven asks to leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

While a move is not expected to happen this month, it could be something to keep an eye on ahead of the summer transfer window.

Liverpool are looking for reinforcements at the back

With Marc Guehi having joined Manchester City, the Reds are seeking potential alternatives, and it appears van de Ven is on their radar.

The Reds do require their centre-backs to cover a lot of ground, and the Dutchman is well capable of doing it. He has been clocked with a top speed of 37.38 kp/h which makes him the fastest player in the Premier League.

Van der Ven’s pace has had its downsides, though, as he has picked up his fair share of hamstring injuries in recent years, which could be a cause for concern.

Could van de Ven replace Konate?

A recent update on Ibrahima Konate’s contract negotiations suggests that Liverpool may need to think about possible replacements.

While things appeared to be moving in the right direction a couple of months ago, it has recently been reported that talks stalled over Christmas.

Konate is believed to be insisting on being one of the best-paid defenders in the Premier League. If a compromise can’t be found, the 26-year-old will leave on a free transfer when his current deal expires at the end of June.
