Jamie Carragher has taken a playful swipe at Gary Lineker following the former Match of the Day presenter's lucrative agreement with Netflix. Lineker departed the BBC in May after a 26-year run fronting Match of the Day and is now concentrating on his podcast, The Rest is Football.
The ex-England international had been scheduled to present the BBC's coverage of the 2026 World Cup but severed all connections with the corporation. Lineker's departure has proven highly successful, with Netflix now securing his services for the World Cup next summer.
Netflix has struck a deal with The Rest is Football for the tournament, which is understood to earn Lineker more than the £1.35million salary he received at the BBC. The arrangement also benefits Lineker's podcast colleagues, Alan Shearer and Micah Richards – and appears to have sparked some envy amongst competitors.
The subject arose during CBS Sports' Champions League coverage on Tuesday evening when reporter Anita Jones quipped: "Micah, I'm hoping that you're going to send me some of that Netflix money though."
The former Manchester City defender dismissed the remark with a laugh, prompting Jones to persist: "I didn't get an answer though.
"Are you going to send me some of the Netflix money or what?" Carragher couldn't resist a jibe, leading Richards to proudly declare the programme 'just the number one pod in the UK.'
Carragher fired back: "Oh, the Netflix deal for the podcast that no-one listens to? Honestly, I don't know anyone who listens to it!"

However, recent figures from Edison tell a different story, placing The Rest is Football as the fifth most-listened to podcast in the UK and the leading sports-focused programme.
By comparison, The Overlap, featuring Carragher alongside Gary Neville, Roy Keane, Ian Wright and Jill Scott, sits at number 17.
The Rest is Football will broadcast daily episodes throughout the World Cup, with Gary Lineker, Alan Shearer and Richards recording from New York.
Lineker described the Netflix partnership as a 'fantastic opportunity for the three of us to do what we love – talk football every day – but on a truly global stage.'

The show will feature "game analysis, special guests, interviews and insights into the world's largest sporting event".
Lineker is a co-founder of Goalhanger, the production company behind The Rest is Football and several other successful podcasts.
The company recently revealed it has exceeded 250,000 paying subscribers across its network, generating 70million episode views monthly across audio and video platforms for its 14 regular programmes.
