Kostas Tsimikas is currently on loan at AS Roma, but Nottingham Forest retain their interest in signing the Liverpool left-back.

• Forest interest: Nottingham Forest have shortlisted Kostas Tsimikas as they face a potential left-back shortage in the January window.

• Roma exit: The Italian club are reportedly open to cutting Tsimikas’ loan short if a suitable replacement is found.

• Surplus to requirements: With Milos Kerkez and Andy Robertson at Anfield, the 29-year-old is expected to leave Liverpool this year.

The arrival of Milos Kerkez saw Tsimikas become surplus to requirements at Liverpool, with Andy Robertson and the new signing deemed better options at left-back.

This Is Anfield understands Forest were keen on the Greek international over the summer, and the Athletic has now said that he remains “among their shortlist of targets.”

The reliable outlet added that Roma “would be willing to cut short” Tsimikas’ loan, “as long as they can themselves source a replacement for him.”

Why are Nottingham Forest still interested in Kostas Tsimikas?

Forest brought in two left-backs in the summer, Cuiabano and Oleksandr Zinchenko, the latter on loan.

Through their own choice, they could be without both in the second half of the campaign, with £10 million signing Cuibano being allowed to leave on loan in January, according to the Athletic.

Meanwhile, Zinchenko, who has played just 353 Premier League minutes this season, could have his loan cut short as he seeks to join Ajax on a temporary deal instead.

Will Kostas Tsimikas leave Roma early?

As mentioned, the Athletic say Roma are willing to let Tsimikas go and this is a stance corroborated by Corriere dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper claimed I Giallorossi could look to terminate their deals for both Tsimikas and Leon Bailey in January to make space in the squad.

This would make sense given the 29-year-old has started just four matches in Serie A and three in the Europa League.

Manager Gian Piero Gasperini has played a back three with wing-backs, which arguably doesn’t suit Tsimikas, a left-back who isn’t blessed with blistering pace.

During his 379 minutes played in the Italian top flight this season, he produced just one cross and had 78.3 percent passing accuracy, placing him in the bottom quarter in this regard for comparable Serie A left-backs.

In early December, Tsimikas was asked the question of whether he could return to Liverpool before the season is out, to which he replied: “You never know.

“The most important thing for me is to be healthy, to train hard, to play more games. Next year is a different story for me.

“I want to be successful, I want to win things. Only God knows what will happen in the next year.”
