West Ham and Fulham had been linked with loan interest in the experienced Chelsea forward this month.

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior has provided an update on the first team stars booted into the ‘bomb squad’ by predecessor Enzo Marecsa with the January transfer window still open for just under two weeks.

Maresca had been ruthless when trimming his squad down at Stamford Bridge but Rosenior has arrived with an open mind. The new Chelsea boss has won two of his first three matches in charge, a 2-0 victory over Brentford last weekend his first in the Premier League.

Rosenior has said that he is offering a ‘clean slate’ to every player in the Chelsea squad, even those axed by Maresca. However, that does not seem to apply to a forward linked with a move to West Ham, Newcastle United and Fulham.

Liam Rosenior provides Raheem Sterling update

Raheem Sterling hasn’t played for Chelsea this season, having spent the previous campaign on an underwhelming loan spell at Arsenal. The Blues are believed to be desperate to sanction a sale and avoid paying the player’s wages with another year left on the deal.

Rosenior appeared to confirm that the player was on the transfer list. He said: “Raheem, at the moment we’re in conversations about different things and different options that are going on in his career. And hopefully that will be clearer in the next few days.”

West Ham and Fulham linked with Chelsea loan move

ESPN had reported earlier this month that both West Ham and Fulham were seriously considering a move for Sterling, who has 123 Premier League goals in his career. However, it was believed that the Hammers and Cottagers were keen on a loan move, whereas Chelsea want a permanent sale. Newcastle United were also linked with Sterling by Football Insider but, at the time, it was reported that the experienced striker was keen to stay in London.

Maresca had taken a hard line on Sterling’s involvement with Chelsea this season. When asked about the former Manchester City man, alongside fellow bomb squad member Axel Disasi, the ex Blues boss had said: I've been in Raheem's and Axel's situation as a player. For sure, I know it is not the best feeling for a player. For different reasons, the situation is the situation at the moment, but I know the club is giving them the situation to work in the right way."

When asked if it was a mentally challenging situation for the duo, Maresca added: "My father is 75 years old and for 50 years he's been a fisherman, working from two o'clock in the morning till 10 o'clock in the morning. This is a hard life - not the way a player works."
