Chelsea are close to sign a highly-rated Championship youngster amid interest from Liverpool, Everton, Man Utd and more
A deal is not yet complete but the Blues are ‘closing in’ on the player with talks at an advanced stage with the Premier League side to pay the Championship outfit a ‘high six-figure up-front fee’ with ‘hefty add-ons to be included in the deal.’
Left-back is a position that Liverpool need to consider in the coming windows, despite signing Milos Kerkez in the summer. Club legend and Scotland captain Andy Robertson is out of contract this summer and as things stand it is unclear if he will even be offered a new deal at the club.
Addressing his future last week, Robertson said: "Yes, but it's a difficult question.
"I've got five months left and we need to see what the option is to stay or if there's options to go and things like that. I need to sit down with my family and decide.
"After a stressful summer, I'm just trying to enjoy being a part of it and being a Liverpool player.
"I wanted to qualify for the World Cup and thankfully we've managed to do that. I need to see what myself and my family wants going forward."
Arne Slot has mostly opted for Kerkez at left-back this campaign but the Hungarian has had a tough start to life at Anfield while Robertson has been called upon at times to help add more calm to the backline.
If he was to leave, it could lead to a return for Kostas Tsimikas who is currently on loan at Serie A side AS Roma. He is out of contract in 2027, however.
Premier League rivals Man United were also said to have made a £450,000 bid for Alao per the report from the Daily Mail earlier this month.
The South Yorkshire club are in administration and have been deducted a total of 18 points this season. The situation at the club will have made it even more difficult for the Owls to keep hold of him after he made his first Championship start over the weekend against Portsmouth.
Speaking on Alao after he played in a Carabao Cup loss to Grimsby, Wednesday boss Henrik Pedersen said via The Star:“As soon as he came on, they tried to bring extra people to his side.
“But he grew through the battle and wow. One of the important skills you need to have as a young player is to adapt; to adapt to the level, to new players and to everything. It was really, really good.
“He is a great young player. Wow. We have to be very careful with him. Just to have a normal training week at a Championship level is very tough for him.”
