Liverpool are reportedly plotting a move to sign a Man United transfer target in the next couple of months.
The Red Devils are yet to make any signings in the January transfer window, but they have seen a major change, as Michael Carrick has come in and led the team to a Manchester derby win in his first match. A 2-0 win against Man City kicked off the Carrick era to a fantastic start.
However, it is understood that United still aim to sign a winger in the summer, and they are set to battle against Liverpool and Tottenham for a Bundesliga star.
Liverpool prepare ‘formal approach’ for Man Utd target Diomande
Yan Diomande has had a lot of Premier League attention in recent weeks, as the Ivory Coast international shone during his time at AFCON. The RB Leipzig winger is just 19, but he’s already blossoming, scoring during Ivory Coast’s quarter-final run in the competition.
According to Caught Offside, the Reds are preparing a concrete bid Diomande in the coming months, as they hope to get ahead of their rivals in the race for the Ivorian.
Diomande said: "I want to play at Anfield, I want to play for Liverpool. I’m a big Liverpool fan. My father's dream is to see me play for Liverpool."
However, if the Red Devils end the season well and secure Champions League football, they could use that as ammunition in any negotiation for the 19-year-old.
Diomande won’t leave in January
The obvious way that Man United could get ahead of Liverpool in the race for Diomande is by approaching this month, but it is understood that Leipzig is adamant that the winger is not for sale in January, but they will consider a sale in the summer transfer window.
Fabrizio Romano has said this week that it will be a crazy battle for the 19-year-old in the summer. He said: “They insist that Yan Diomande will not leave in this window. They made important money in the summer, they are not looking for money. They sold Sesko, they sold Openda, they sold Xavi Simons.
“So now, Diomande is staying, that is the message from Leipzig, but in the summer it is going to be a crazy battle. Man United are sending their scouts, Tottenham as well, Paris Saint-Germain are also following closely.”
It may be the case that United have to look elsewhere if Diomande prefers a move to Liverpool, but the Red Devils will no doubt try and sign him, as his talent is there for everyone to see.
