Barcelona are closing in on a deal for Norwich City youngster Ajay Tavares, with the operation now very advanced.
That’s according to journalist Gianluigi Longari. He reports that the Catalan side are pushing ahead with a deal for the youngster.
Sport then provide more detail on the matter. They report that the Norwich City winger could arrive on a permanent transfer, with Barcelona seemingly beating out European competition for his signature.
Tavares is an England U-19 international and his signing would, in principle, be for Barcelona’s youth team. He would also likely strengthen Barça Atlètic. That would likely depend on the timing of his arrival, which is still to be determined.
Barcelona’s youth academy are looking for promising attacking players due to perceive deficiencies in these positions. The move for the Norwich City youngster is a strategic one on that front. Norwich will get a fee, and negotiations are underway on that front.
Tavares has earned attention thanks to his performances in England’s youth ranks. Premier League clubs were also keen, but it is Barcelona who have stepped to the front of the queue.
They now appear to be pushing ahead to ensure there is no last-minute interference from their European rivals.
