Liverpool heads into its Champions League match against Marseille just one point away from the top eight spots in the league phase. A victory in France would bring it level with Real Madrid and see it overtake the likes of Spurs and PSG.

For that reason alone, Arne Slot will be hoping for a big performance. If his side can finish inside the top quarter of the Swiss-system's table, that would mean avoiding the play-off round — ideal, given the number of fixtures and injuries his side already has.

Slot is also under pressure as a result of recent games. Liverpool fans at Anfield booed after the 1-1 draw with Burnley last weekend, and the Reds have not been consistent this season, despite picking up some big wins in this competition.

In the UK, fans will be able to follow the game live on TNT Sports 1 and via the channel's online and streaming services. In the US, the match is set to be live on Paramount+.

"It's important for us," Milos Kerkez told a press conference ahead of the game. "We want to finish in the top eight and go to the last 16. We know we have to win two tough games for that.

"I think tomorrow's game is going to be tough; Marseille are a really good side. It is going to be a tough 90 minutes but we hope to get over the line.

"It is the Champions League, we have two games left and we know we have to win to go through to the last 16, so it is the priority now for Wednesday. Then the priority on Saturday is the Premier League again."

Slot, meanwhile, is looking forward to taking on the former Brighton manager Roberto De Zerbi, who is a coach that he admires.

"I regard him as one of the best managers in the world," Slot said. "In my opinion, it should not always be judged on the amount of trophies you win, it should also be judged on the fact of how you let your team play.

"I think he is already working at a very big club because Marseille is a very big club, [both] at the moment and history-wise as well. I'm not the one that is hiring coaches but if I was one, he would definitely be very high on a list if I worked at a big club. I always like to watch his teams.

"He is working in France now, so I follow the English league a little bit more, of course, but when he was at Brighton, I saw his teams playing more. He's a very good manager.

"It's not always fair to judge managers only on what they win, the style of play should also be very important as well, in my opinion, and the development of players.

"That's what you see with him, that players always develop very well and then sometimes when he leaves these players are not as good as they were with him and that usually tells me how good a manager you are."
