It has been a quiet January window for Liverpool so far, but the club continue to be linked with several players. Reports suggest the Reds are expected to make a formal approach for Yan Diomande in the coming months, while Liverpool-linked Nico Schlotterbeck has been tipped as capable of playing for any top club.
Liverpool have already missed out on Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi, both of whom joined Manchester City, with Guehi having been close to a £35m move to Anfield last summer.
Despite that, there is still time for Liverpool to act before the deadline, with speculation continuing over potential late business. Charlton Athletic have officially completed the signing of Luke Chambers on loan from Liverpool for the remainder of the season.
The left-back joins the Championship side after recently returning to fitness at Liverpool. A Reds player since the age of six, Chambers has previously had loan spells with Kilmarnock and Wigan Athletic twice.
He made his senior Liverpool debut in September 2023 and has made four first-team appearances in total. Charlton are next in action away at Millwall on Saturday. The 21-year-old is Charlton’s third signing of the window, following Harry Clarke and Lyndon Dykes.
After putting pen to paper, Chambers said: “I’m over the moon. I know how passionate the fans are about the club and having played against Charlton last season, I know how good The Valley is so I can’t wait to get going.
“We’ve obviously got a big game on Saturday, so I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans and showing them what I’ve got.”
Managing Director James Rodwell commented: “Strengthening our options on the left side of our defence and at wing-back has been a key priority during this transfer window, and we’re delighted to welcome Luke, a player we’ve been monitoring for some time.
“He is technically excellent, athletic and a progressive passer. In addition, we would like to thank Liverpool for their cooperation in allowing Luke to join us. We’re looking forward to seeing him in a Charlton shirt.”
Manager Nathan Jones added: “It’s no secret that we’ve been working hard to bring in a player that can come in and contribute on our left side, including at left wing-back, so I’m delighted that Luke has joined us.
“He’s a talented, young, hungry player of real pedigree, having come through the Liverpool youth system and represented their first team, so I’m looking forward to working with him.”
