Liverpool return to Champions League action this evening as Arne Slot’s side travel to France to face Marseille. The Reds will be aiming to bounce back after being held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley on Saturday.
The Premier League champions have already secured a place in the Champions League play-off stage after results elsewhere went in their favour on Tuesday, with defeats for Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Inter Milan.
A win tonight would significantly boost their chances of bypassing the extra play-off round and advancing straight to the last 16. On facing Roberto De Zerbi in the Marseille dugout, Slot said: “I regard him as one of the best managers in the world.
“In my opinion, it should not always be judged on the amount of trophies you win, it should also be judged on the fact of how you let your team play. I think he is already working at a very big club because Marseille is a very big club, [both] at the moment and history-wise as well.
“I’m not the one that is hiring coaches but if I was one, he would definitely be very high on a list if I worked at a big club. I always like to watch his teams.”
Away from Europe, Liverpool’s March Premier League schedule has been confirmed for television coverage. Three league fixtures have been selected for broadcast, including a trip to Wolves for an 8.15pm kick-off, a televised home clash with Tottenham Hotspur, and another lunchtime visit to Brighton & Hove Albion.
The Brighton fixture could yet be rescheduled depending on Liverpool’s progress in the Champions League. Should the Reds qualify directly for the round of 16 and be drawn away on March 18, that match would be moved to an evening kick-off.
Sky Sports and TNT Sports have now confirmed their March selections, giving Liverpool supporters clarity on the televised run-in as the season approaches its decisive stage. New details are listed as follows (kick-off times GMT): Wolverhampton Wanderers v Liverpool – Tuesday March 3 – 8.15pm (TNT Sports)** Liverpool v Tottenham Hotspur, Sunday March 15 – 4.30pm (Sky Sports) Brighton & Hove Albion v Liverpool – Saturday March 21 – 12.30pm (TNT Sports)**
