Curtis Jones suggests Liverpool have had four players who are more legendary than Kenny Dalglish

Curtis Jones just named his Liverpool Mount Rushmore, and left out Sir Kenny Dalglish — the players he picked are no slouches, though.

There is no shortage of legendary figures who have made Anfield their home over the years.

Jones was asked to pick four, an unsavoury task given the pool of greats there are to choose from.

His best effort isn’t too bad, despite omitting possibly the greatest legend of them all.

Curtis Jones names his Liverpool Mount Rushmore

Interviewed by JD Sports on TikTok, Jones did point out that he was born in 2001, and hasn’t seen many of the undisputed greats in action.

Despite that, his list has a good balance of eras. Though not going far enough back for Dalglish to get in.

He started with Steven Gerrard, keeping it simple: “Stevie, he’s the GOAT, and obviously he’s a Scouser as well. Probably Ian Rush, in terms of all the goals, and obviously all the records.”

Two fair selections, most would say. He continues: “For me as well, I’d say John Barnes. Yeah, just based on , if you think of him when he was a winger and how fast he was, and direct.

“Then obviously he slowed down a bit and then he went to play as a centre-mid and he dominated, still. Then he was captain for a long time as well.”

To round out the list, he goes for his current teammate, Mohamed Salah. He concludes: “I’ll have to put Mo in there, just in terms of what he’s done for like the whole time since he’s come to the club. And the records he’s broken and the ones he’s set, it’s ridiculous.”

The problem with picking four is that someone absolutely legendary is going to miss out. Robbie Fowler named his four Liverpool legends earlier this month, and also struggled. He suggested two or three Mount Rushmores would be better.

Curtis Jones splitting opinion, Liverpool fans have spoken

Jones has stepped up to a role of more prominence than he has had for most of Arne Slot’s tenure.

Readers on Rousing The Kopthink Jones needs to be dropped from the starting XI.

He has come on so much, and he is an invaluable member of the squad. The issue lies in how good Liverpool were last year with Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister all on top form.

How much longer should Liverpool persevere with Curtis Jones?

Surely there are better options out there in the market…

All but Szoboszlai have dropped their levels, so Jones has been able to come in and put in some assured performances.

The feeling, however, is that he lowers the ceiling of the side as a regular starter.
