Federico Chiesa absence explained as Liverpool face Marseille.

Federico Chiesa is absent from Liverpool’s squad against Marseille.

The forward pulled out of Arne Slot’s set-up after taking part in the warm-up of the Champions League clash at the Stade Velodrome. Liverpool have opted not to take any risks, so Chiesa cannot feature as a substitute.

A post on Liverpool’s official match-day blog said: “Federico Chiesa picked up a knock in the warm-up and is no longer on the substitutes' bench tonight.”

Liverpool are already missing Ibrahima Konate, who returned to France for a family matter. With Chiesa unavailable, Cody Gakpo is the Reds’ only senior attacker among the substitutes along with 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha.
