Liverpool returned to Champions League action against Marseille on January 21, with Steven Gerrard and Joe Hart covering the clash as pundits.
After the results in the early European kick-offs, the Reds had already guaranteed a place in the league phase play-offs this season.
But a spot in the top eight, which gives automatic qualification into the Round of 16, remained up for grabs in the final two matches of the group stage.

Hart had nothing but good things to say about the Hungarian, explaining how his shooting is a nightmare for goalkeepers to predict.
He said: “He’s a top player, there’s absolutely no getting away from it. Since he’s come into the squad, come into the team, he’s everywhere.
“He plays every position, he’s so fit, he’s got so much energy, and he’s got so much quality.
“I mean the goals that he scores, as a goalkeeper, the way that he hits it, you can’t get the dive off, you can’t time his shots because he hits it so hard and so well.”

Steven Gerrard makes overconfident Dominik Szoboszlai claim
Gerrard was also complimentary of the midfielder, saying he has been Liverpool’s best player and is even better than he was in 2024/25.
However, the Englishman did suggest that Szoboszlai, who came under fire during the Barnsley clash and missed a penalty against Burnley, has been a bit overconfident recently.
Gerrard said: “Just a little bit overconfident in the last couple of weeks, but he has been Liverpool’s best player, he’s been the most consistent player.
“He’s improved from last season, which is a huge bonus for Liverpool fans. He’s got everything.”
