Dominik Szoboszlai ranks top again – as Jeremie Frimpong proves “really important”

Dominik Szoboszlai, yet again, stood out as a leading performer for Liverpool in their 3-0 win at Marseille, but a new signing was almost just as good.

It was a great night for Arne Slot and his players, as they picked up a vital three points in the Champions League in their bid to avoid the playoff round.

Here we compare our player ratings with those of the Liverpool Echo, GOAL and the TIA readers.

Szoboszlai (8.38) continues to stand out as Liverpool’s Player of the Season and he got the highest rating after opening the scoring in France.

The Hungarian’s free-kick may have been his outstanding moment of the night, but GOAL’s Mark Doyle also pointed out that he “created two wonderful chances” for Hugo Ekitike (7.15).

Jeremie Frimpong (8.18) continues to improve in a Liverpool shirt, with the right-back assisting the second goal.

The Echo‘s Paul Gorst believes the 25-year-old is now “becoming a really important player” for the Reds, while James Nalton gave him This Is Anfield‘s Man of the Match award.

Mohamed Salah (5.65) made an ineffective return to the Liverpool team, however, getting the lowest marks on his first start since the end of November.

What the stats say

Interestingly, Alisson was Liverpool’s best player, according to FotMob, receiving an 8.6 rating.

The Reds’ legendary No. 1 made four saves, including an important one at 0-0, and he also successfully acted as a sweeper twice.

Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez were excellent at the heart of Liverpool’s defence, making 12 and 10 defensive contributions, respectively – the most from either team.

The skipper also made an unmatched 10 clearances and six headed clearances on another imperious night.

Florian Wirtz may not have scored or assisted for Liverpool, but his tenacious side was on show, with the German committing four fouls.

Nobody gave away more than him, with Frimpong matching his former Bayer Leverkusen teammate.
