What left Liam Rosenior 'devastated' following Chelsea's win against Pafos

Liam Rosenior will have obviously preferred to see his Chelsea side score three or four at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, and go on to beat Pafos comfortably and with style.

But it is often the way that when a side plays with such a low block, and are not interested in winning a match, that the space is limited and it is incredibly hard to break a team down. Chelsea did, eventually.

Moises Caicedo got the only goal of the game from a corner with 13 minutes left to play. The Ecuador star has become renowned for his shooting outside the box, but last night, his goal was a collector’s item.

A header, much-needed at the time. A win that takes Chelsea into the top eight and a direct passage into the last 16. While Rosenior was happy with the win, one thing upset the Chelsea boss in his fourth game.

Chelsea star’s injury leaves Liam Rosenior ‘devastated’ after Pafos

Such is the schedule; there are always going to be injuries. Tosin is out for a few weeks with a hamstring injury. But Rosenior will not have been expecting to have to substitute his goalkeeper on Wednesday.

Filip Jorgensen was replaced at half-time by Rosenior, with Robert Sanchez replacing the £20m signing from Villarreal. Asked about Jorgensen’s departure from the game, Rosenior confirmed it was an injury.

“Unfortunately, he picked something up. Devastated for him, because he’s really impressed me, not just the game at Charlton, but in training, too. Hopefully, he can get better quickly. No [idea how bad it is].”

Filip Jorgensen set to be stuck at Chelsea this month

Jorgensen has cut a frustrated figure at Chelsea this season. Last term, the back-up goalkeeper clocked up 24 appearances for the Blues in all competitions, even if only eight of those were in the league.

Does Jorgensen deserve to start over Sanchez?

Jorgensen linked with West Ham and Leverkusen

A key part of the Conference League campaign, Jorgensen might have hoped he would push for a start this season. But his outing against Pafos was Jorgensen’s eighth in total, second under Rosenior.

West Ham have been linked with Jorgensen, while Leverkusen are also keen and he is said to be open to joining either side. But if he is injured and it is a few weeks out, the chances of an exit evaporate.

It feels like Jorgensen will remain at Stamford Bridge. Even if he hadn’t picked up an injury, it sounds like Rosenior will have wanted him to stick around, with Sanchez hardly easing fan concern with his form.
