There was a welcome change of pace as the media were able to praise Arne Slot this time after Liverpool’s 3-0 victory away to Marseille.
The Reds eased to a precious three points on Wednesday evening, putting one foot in the Champions League last 16 with a game to go.
Here’s the best of the media reaction to Liverpool’s win, as their unbeaten run stretches to 13 matches.
Arne Slot’s dominant European showing praised

On X, David Lynch said Liverpool got it spot on, hailing Slot in the process:
“Thought that was a textbook Champions League away performance from Liverpool tonight.
“Quietened the crowd, controlled it, and created enough chances to win comfortably.
“Huge credit to Arne Slot for the setup that earned a really important win in terms of the top eight.”
The Echo‘s Ian Doyle even felt that the Reds haven’t played better all season:
“That’s a great win from LFC in probably their best performance of the season.
“The Premier League may not be going to plan but if they keep this up in the Champions League, they are going to be a tough team to eliminate.”
Given the tough nature of the atmosphere, the Daily Mail‘s Lewis Steele was particularly impressed:
“What a performance away in the Champions League and the scoreline flattered Roberto De Zerbi’s team.
“After winning at San Siro last month, that’s an accomplished victory to go with it. Midfield was excellent.
“Silenced the raucous home atmosphere.”

Jason Burt of the Telegraph played down any talk of a genuine crisis at Liverpool:
“Crisis? What crisis? If Liverpool can continue to play like this, with this level of commitment then they – and Arne Slot – will quickly brush away such concerns.
“This was far more like it; this was a Champions League performance in the Champions League as they largely dominated a dangerous Marseille side and quelled their passionate support.
“Job, emphatically, done.”
Aadam Patel of BBC Sport described it as a “night to remember” for the Reds:
“For Slot, who has good memories in Marseille having seen his Feyenoord side qualify for the Europa Conference League final here in 2022, this was a night where the performance was perhaps even more important than the result.
“His team were superb and made light work of a Marseille side that have impressed under De Zerbi this season.
“Just like at Inter Milan last month, this was another night to remember for the 3,300-strong travelling support.”
Liverpool media praise Dominik Szoboszlai and the unsung Joe Gomez

The *Daily Mail*‘s Harry Bamforth lauded another big night for Szoboszlai:
“Dominik Szoboszlai is having some season. Yet again, he shone in the Liverpool midfield, scoring a brilliant goal and dictating the match. It’s fair to say he has been the Reds’ best player this campaign.
“He has been notching up numbers similar to those of legends in the past, including the likes of Steven Gerrard.
“Szoboszlai is the third Liverpool player to be involved in a goal on five consecutive Champions League games (4 goals, 2 assists) after Gerrard (5 in October 2007-February 2008 and September-November 2008) and Mohamed Salah (6 in September 2022-February 2023).
“Not bad company, eh?”
Meanwhile, Squawka highlighted the unrivalled influence Liverpool’s No. 8 is having this season:

Steele took time to praise Joe Gomez, who was imaculate coming in for Ibrahima Konate:
“Worth a word on Joe Gomez. Didn’t put a foot wrong defensively and loves them punched passes through the lines, my favourite sort of pass to be honest mates.
“To have a player who knows he is not first choice but happy to step up whenever, wherever (on the pitch, not a Shakira remix) and do so at such a high level, should never be taken for granted.
“And a nice chap too.”
Finally, the *Mirror*‘s Samuel Meade also spoke highly of Gomez:
“If it wasn’t for Ibrahima Konate having to head home to deal with a family issue then its highly likely that Joe Gomez would’ve started another game on the bench.
“He’s made more appearances as a sub than a starter so far this term, undoubtedly behind Konate in the pecking order.
“There’s been talk of him moving on. If it wasn’t for Liverpool’s shortage at centre-half then the two parties may weigh up whether a move could take place.
“But as things stand Gomez will certainly be called upon at times, and he showed he’s more than capable of stepping up when needed.”
