Arne Slot playfully hit out at Jamie Carragher and told the Liverpool legend 'I don't think I should listen to you' in a light-hearted back-and-forth exchange. The Liverpool head coach was in high spirits after his team made significant progress towards securing an automatic spot in the Champions League round of 16.
The Reds made the trip to France to take on Marseille and delivered a ruthless performance against the Ligue 1 side, running out comfortable 3-0 winners. A stylish free-kick from Dominik Szoboszlai was followed by an own goal from Geronimo Rulli and a last-minute goal from Cody Gakpo in the 93rd minute.
It was a monumental result for the Merseyside club, following four successive draws in the Premier League and progression to the next round of the FA Cup. After being criticised for a lacklustre and slow attack, Carragher asked Slot about seeing his team net three goals and maintain a clean sheet.

The Liverpool legend said: "Arne, can I ask about the set-up tonight. The last few months you've tried to make the team get better and better, and you've played lots of different formations, can you explain how it looked tonight?"
Slot replied with a cheeky grin, saying: "I find it hard to listen to you, Jamie, because you are the one who told me I have to make sure we didn't concede that much.
"So I started to do that (change his formations on a regular basis) and people began to complain it became boring, so I'm not sure if I should listen to you."
Slot also humorously implied that Carragher only discusses Liverpool when the chips are down, quipping: "We score three and now, people like Jamie are positive about us. I don't think you were positive after the Burnley game, were you, Jamie?"

The Dutchman's witty retort sparked laughter in the CBS Studio, which also hosted Micah Richards, Thierry Henry and presenter Kate Abdo. Once the laughter had died down, Slot made a point of addressing Carragher's question and elucidating his strategy.
When queried about the alterations, he explained: "Because of some injuries we have, because of the players we have available and because of the opponents' style of play.
"We thought it was a good idea to play with Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike up front and to overload the midfield with players who are very good in-between the lines.

"I think you could see that today with full-backs who could attack down the side with Mac Allister and Ryan (Gravenberch) who could help out Joe (Gomez) and Virgil (Van Dijk) in the build-up."
It was a humorous conclusion to an impeccable evening for Slot's team. They're on the brink of securing a berth in the round of 16 via the eight automatic qualifying spots.
A win at Anfield against Azerbaijani outfit Qarabag will propel them into the last 16 without the need for the two-legged play-offs. It would be a significant boost for Slot's squad, who are still embroiled in a tight race for a top-four spot domestically.
