Arsenal 'triple deal plans' after board discussions about £111m goal machine

Arsenal were reportedly keen on Atletico Madrid sensation Julian Alvarez last year, and may pursue a new attacker, midfielder and right-back this summer. Having invested roughly £250million during last summer, Arsenal are not expected to be particularly busy in the remaining weeks of the January transfer window.

As Arsenal's injury crisis starts to ease, Mikel Arteta is approaching a full-strength squad, which might result in reduced playing time for fringe players like Ethan Nwaneri. Despite approaches from West Ham United and Bournemouth for a loan arrangement, the Gunners remained resolute, but he has now moved to Marseille.

Meanwhile, Oleksandr Zinchenko, presently on loan away from the Emirates Stadium, could see his circumstances alter following candid remarks from Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche and transfer speculation from another club. Regarding new arrivals, it seems all attention is focused on the summer transfer window, with Andrea Berta already drawing up strategies.

One player previously mentioned was Alvarez, whom the CIES Football Observatory rates at £111million. Speaking on Sky Sports' Transfer Show, The Athletic's David Ornstein has provided the latest update on Arsenal's transfer movements, including suggestions that a deal for Alvarez, who has 11 goals this season and 130 across his career, was explored last summer.

He also suggests they might target three fresh additions this summer - a new attacker, midfielder and right-back. Arteta has previously indicated that the club is willing to address its injury concerns by exploring potential signings during January.

Speaking last month, the Spaniard said: "The window is there and I mean we are Arsenal and we have to be looking at it -- 'Okay, what do we need?' And we have to be actively looking and then, whether we can do it or not, that's a different story.

"But our job is to always be very prepared because something can happen, so hopefully it'll be very positive.

"When you look across the other clubs, they have 24 or 25 squad players. Although we have had more injuries than expected, some of them not avoidable.

"We want to be better and we know how important the part of having the right availability with players is going to be this season."

Nevertheless, minimal activity has occurred so far and any significant transfers this month appear improbable at this stage.

Arsenal are back in action on Sunday, hosting Michael Carrick's Manchester United in north London (4:30pm).
