Upfront Steven Gerrard has urged Arne Slot to bin his long-running moans over low blocks after Liverpool turned the style on against Marseille.
The Dutchman basked in the glow of a stunning 3-0 win away to Marseille but couldn't resist lamenting the Reds success came against a side which refused to shut up shop
Gerrard – effusive of Slot's tactics during the the signature victory – admitted it's time for the 47-year-old to let his gripe go because Liverpool will always face teams looking to take their play away from the current Premier League holders.
Speaking to TNT Sports after Slot's post-match debrief, Gerrard said: "He needs to stop mentioning low blocks. Low blocks have been happening against Liverpool since I was playing. That’s just the way it is."
Gerrard experienced the frustrations of coming up for a solution to teams who are camped in during his time at Rangers with teams lying deep causing him problems during, specifically during his first two seasons in the race to dethrone Celtic.
And it was the basis of a blast aimed into the heart of the Rangers dressing room in February 2019 as St Johnstone frustrated his side and all-but extinguished their faint title hopes.
Speaking at the time on the challenges of facing a low block, Gerrard wasn't having it, he said: “We knew Tommy and how he was going to set up. That didn’t disappoint us. They were organised, mid to low block and they offer you a challenge of: ‘Come on then what you got? Come and beat us’ and we didn’t have enough today all over the pitch to find the answers to the challenge and that’s very concerning for me.
“We lacked leadership, I’m struggling to find any positives from it really. That’s where we are. I think right now, forget titles, forget closing gaps. The reality is if you perform like that across the board in front of 50k people, there’s your evidence. You don’t need me to say this that and the other."
