Newcastle United handed stark €437.7m truth as Aston Villa & Liverpool skyrocket revenue growth

Newcastle United latest news: The 2026 Deloitte Football Money League is out and it makes for some interesting reading for Newcastle United and Aston Villa fans.

The Magpies were ranked 15th in last year’s Deloitte Football Money League, with revenues of €371.8m. That put them above European giants Juventus as well as fellow Premier League rivals Aston Villa and West Ham.

However, this time around, the Magpies have fallen to 17th place and have been overtaken by the Serie A giants and the Villains. Although a revenue of €398.4m is the highest in Newcastle United’s history and an increase of almost €30m in just a year, it was not enough to keep them in 15th place.

Newcastle United’s drop down the rankings can largely be attributed to their lack of Champions League football, or any European football, during the 2024/25 season. The current figures published in the 2026 Deloitte Football Money League uses financial figures from the 2024/25 campaign.

Real Madrid, as they did in 2025, top the 2026 Deloitte Football Money League with revenues of €1.161bn ahead of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and PSG who make up the rest of the top four. Liverpool, who sit fifth in the latest rankings, are the highest ranked Premier League club with revenues of €836.1m - a staggering €437.7m more than Newcastle United.

The newly-reformatted Champions League means clubs competing in that competition will receive greater prize money than ever before and it’s not a surprise, therefore, to see that the vast majority of clubs in the top-20 of this year’s Deloitte Football Money League have all played Champions League football in recent seasons. The Club World Cup, played for the first time last summer in the USA, has also helped a number of clubs skyrocket their revenues.

Of course, Newcastle United’s return to the Champions League this season will significantly boost their revenues in the 2027 Deloitte Money League and it’s likely, although not guaranteed, that they will once again leapfrog Villa in the table. However, these figures highlight just how big the discrepancy between clubs like Newcastle and Villa and the Premier League’s so-called ‘big six’ truly is and just how much Eddie Howe and Unai Emery’s sides have to fight to even compete with these clubs in an era of PSR and squad-cost ratio financial restrictions, never mind overtake them.
