Jamie Carragher has hit out at certain Liverpool fans for their criticism of manager Arne Slot, suggesting that some have been swayed by comments taken out of context.
Displeasure with Reds boss Slot has been gradually escalating throughout the season. Despite stemming the tide of a series of embarrassing defeats, the current unbeaten run has been marred by frustrating draws, including home games against all three newly promoted teams.
However, the Reds did manage to make their mark with a 3-0 Champions League victory over Marseille on Wednesday night, propelling Slot's team to fourth in the tournament standings, reports the Liverpool Echo.

It's also worth noting that Slot was at the helm when the Premier League trophy returned to Anfield just a few months ago. While Xabi Alonso's sudden availability following his departure from Real Madrid presents an enticing transfer market prospect, Carragher believes the Dutch coach deserves more patience.
Carragher acknowledged there are several issues within the Liverpool squad at present. He supported Slot's initial conservative strategy to halt the losses, but expressed his view that it's now time to take a more aggressive approach.
"I can understand [the frustration]" Carragher conceded, speaking on CBS Sports Golazo. "I think when the manager was in a run of nine defeats in 12 games, that's not acceptable, he had to stop that somewhere, and that's where the whole Mo Salah thing sort of blew up.

"He has stopped the defeats, but the way he's gone about that has probably almost gone on for too long. You can accept that for the first four or five games, it's not the Liverpool he wants, it's not the Liverpool we want to watch, but the most important thing is stopping the defeats, getting a few wins, draws here and there.
"But this has sort of carried on now for a couple of months, it feels like, and it's almost gone on too long, and it has to change in the second half of the season, there [needs to be] a bit more energy and excitement about watching Liverpool."
Many fans would likely agree with this assessment. Carragher isn't giving Slot a free pass, but rather acknowledging some of the circumstances and the goodwill Slot has earned from his past Premier League success.

However, Slot's recent comment about being one of only two managers to bring a title to Anfield in the last 30 years has sparked controversy among some fans.
Carragher, though, thinks this discussion has been misinterpreted and that the backlash has gone too far in some cases. "I think some of the criticism the manager's had, and he gets from Liverpool supporters, I think it's just way out of line and way over the top," he cautioned.
"This is a guy who, six months ago, won the league title.

"And he's done an interview today (Wednesday) for another broadcaster, and they've used the headline of, "Liverpool have won the league twice in 30 years, and I was one of the guys who won it. "And we all do this on social media, it gets everyone clicking, so all Liverpool fans are going mad at it.
"He hasn't said that, if you listen to the full interview... In context, right? Yeah, put it in context. "So I get a bit peeved on his part, because he's very calm and measured in press conferences.
"He was like that last year, even when Liverpool won it, he's like that right now, and I reckon he deserves a lot more respect from Liverpool supporters for what he's achieved in his first season at the club."

Carragher makes a sound point that Slot has kept a steady head throughout both the highs and lows of his tenure so far. It's just that certain comments have not gone down well when results haven't been going Liverpool's way.

However, that's no excuse for some of the flak thrown his way. This is especially true when fans are getting riled up over remarks they haven't actually heard in their proper context.
Ultimately, the likelihood of Slot keeping his job until the end of the season seems incredibly high. Supporters have every right to be frustrated, but Carragher's call for a measured assessment is worth taking into account.
