“It doesn’t matter” - Thierry Henry dismisses talk about Arsenal dominating Europe after Champions League exploits

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has dismissed talk of Arsenal being Europe's most dominant side after their performance in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League. The Gunners have won all seven of their games so far in the competition, including games against Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan.

Henry was on punditry duty with CBS Sports when Micah Richards pointed out that the Premier League is dominating Europe, and Arsenal is in a good position. The former France U-21 coach refuted Richards' claims, pointing out that the league phase does not really matter at the end of the competition. He stated that last season's winners, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) had a poor league phase performance and only qualified via playoffs, but won the competition.

"No, it’s about winning it. Paris Saint-Germain were not [in that] that last year. It doesn’t matter. You have to be there in Budapest, right? That’s where you need to be", he said (via Metro.co.uk).

Mikel Arteta's side lead the way after seven of eight games in the league phase of this season's competition, having won all seven. They sit three points ahead of Bayern Munich, and will end the league phase against Kazakhstani minnows Kairat Almaty next week.

Arsenal won six of their eight games, losing just once as they finished in the top eight of the league phase last season. They got to the semi-final, where they were eliminated by a PSG side that scraped a playoff place on the last day of the league phase, and then went on to win the trophy.

Arsenal starlet completes loan switch to Champions League side

Arsenal youngster Ethan Nwaneri has completed his loan move to French giants Olympique Marseille. The 18-year-old midfielder has joined the Ligue 1 side on a temporary deal until the end of the season to gain experience.

Nwaneri enjoyed a breakout season in 2024-25, but has seen his minutes reduce significantly this term, resulting in his decision to leave on loan. The England U-21 international will cost Marseille an initial £1.5 million in loan fees, with the final amount to be dictated by how much he plays.

Ethan Nwaneri was an unused substitute for the Gunners as they defeated Inter Milan in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday before he was unveiled on Wednesday in France. The youngster will return to his parent club at the end of the season, as the loan deal does not include any options to make it permanent.
