Report: Chelsea trio want improved contracts at Stamford Bridge but Todd Boehly has other ideas

The feel-good factor is back at Chelsea under the guidance of Liam Rosenior with the new manager guiding his side to three wins in four, and morale is clearly high in the squad.

Chelsea remain competitive on all four fronts. The Blues sit in sixth place in the Premier League and just two points off fourth, while a 3-2 loss in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals can be overturned.

A win against Pafos on Wednesday takes Chelsea into the top eight of the Champions League first round and on course to avoid a play-off, in pursuit of the last 16. Chelsea are also in the FA Cup fourth round.

Despite the hectic routine, the injuries, a virus over the last fortnight, and other issues, Rosenior has got his side doing what is required. The players are happy, and Chelsea is a place where players want to be.

So much so that three players are keen to improve their current deals at Stamford Bridge and would enter talks right now if at all possible, according to BBC Sport’s Chelsea reporter Nizaar Kinsella.

The three players who want to enter Chelsea contract talks

Ahead of the 1-0 win over Pafos, Kinsella explained that a move for Marc Guehi didn’t materialise due to his wage demands. Guehi is on £300,000 a week at Man City, a huge £50,000 more than Reece James.

As things stand, James is Chelsea’s highest-paid player. But Kinsella reports on BBC Sport’s website that three Chelsea players want to enter contract talks and secure an improved deal at Stamford Bridge.

Enzo Fernandez is one, despite boasting a contract until 2032. Moises Caicedo as well, who is contracted until the summer of 2031 and injured ace Levi Colwill also wants a new deal. His contract ends in 2029.

However, there is an issue. Chelsea and Todd Boehly are unwilling to enter contract negotiations until the end of the season. In the last few days, French giants PSG have been linked with a move for Enzo.

How much Enzo, Caicedo and Colwill reportedly earn at Chelsea

Kinsella says James is the club’s highest earner, though Raheem Sterling is supposedly on a deal north of £300,000 although the England star has been ostracised. Rosenior hinted Sterling could leave this month.

As things stand, Enzo is earning £180,000 a week and is only behind Sterling, James and Wesley Fofana according to Salary Sport. Caicedo is on even less, earning £140,000 a week since joining from Brighton.

Colwill is further down the list of wages, on £75,000 a week. Despite being injured, there is certainly a case for Colwill’s deal to be improved, especially with the England star a homegrown player at Chelsea.

Enzo and Caicedo are arguably Chelsea’s best players, alongside James and Cole Palmer. If their impact is to be reflected in their deals, Caicedo deserves a pay rise. PSG’s interest in Enzo may prompt action.
