Chelsea are said to be interested in an all-round midfielder who could offer real competition in the midfield.

Chelsea are said to be showing interest in a Bundesliga midfielder as they contemplate adding a middle man in this window. The Blues have already decided they want to back Liam Rosenior in his first month in charge, with a couple of obvious gaps in the squad.

Enzo Maresca warned the club that they would need a centre-back after Levi Colwill picked up a serious late in the summer, and it took months for Chelsea to realise he was right.

That realisation came too late to save the relationship with Maresca, but it does now look as though the Blues will sign a centre-back this month to make sure Rosenior can plug a key gap in the defence. Chelsea do have plenty of options there, but they lack bonified starters.

The German-born former England youth international also has a brother, Lukas, who currently plays for Leeds United. Felix Nmecha has played regularly for Dortmund this season, and the report claims the German club are hoping he will pen improved terms that keep him at the club beyond 2028.

Nmecha will be attractive to Chelsea because of his ability to play both ways, offering real diversity in the midfield. The six-time Germany international is an out and out central midfielder, but he has also played both in defensive midfield and attacking midfield during his career.

Manchester United are also said to be interested in Nmecha, who has a reported asking price of £52million.
