Liverpool given massive boost in quest to sign £60m England star who is a "joy to play with"

Liverpool have been handed a boost in their efforts to sign Crystal Palace and England midfielder Adam Wharton, according to a new transfer update.

The Reds may look to add to their midfield at the end of the season, even though they are blessed with elite options in the middle of the park already, from Ryan Gravenberch to Dominik Szoboszlai.

The £60m-rated Wharton is a player who has been linked with a move to Liverpool and there has now been a potential development regarding the situation.

According to TEAMtalk, the Englishman will leave Palace this summer and the Eagles have “accepted” it, with the Reds still very much in the mix to complete the signing of him.

It is claimed that Liverpool “have kept tabs” on Wharton, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa also “both aiming to strengthen their squads for sustained Champions League contention.”

Is Wharton Liverpool’s perfect midfield option?

Wharton is a special young player with a vast amount of potential, with the midfielder being lauded by former Palace teammate Eberechi Eze in the past:

“Playing with him at Palace, I’ve got used to seeing the way he plays and understanding him. He’s very calm, composed, and a joy to play with. For someone so young, he’s very mature and very wise. When you speak to him, it feels like you’re speaking to someone older than you, that’s the type of person he is. He’s an incredible player.”

At 21 years of age, Wharton has the world at his feet, possessing a calm head on young shoulders, and he could mature into a key starter for Liverpool over time, assuming he avoids the injuries that have dogged him at times recently.

He has the ability to dictate a midfield battle, in terms of retaining possession and playing incisive passes, and he is also effective off the ball, working hard and displaying strong positional sense.

This season, Wharton has averaged 2.5 tackles per game in the Premier League, highlighting his quality out of possession, and he is a player Liverpool should see a perfect midfield option, both for the present and the future.
