Dominik Szoboszlai comments on Liverpool star's post
Liverpool star Dominik Szoboszlai has hilariously told teammate Jeremy Frimpong not to count an own goal in his tally. He commented on the Dutchman's post after the 3-0 win over Marseille in the UEFA Champions League.
Taking to Instagram after the win, Frimpong posted a series of photos from the game, and asked UEFA in the caption if the own goal would count as his as it was his pass that deflected in.
Szoboszlai was quick to respond and commented:
"No it doesn't"
The Hungarian played a key role in the win on Wednesday, January 21, after he opened the scoring in the first half. He spoke about his smart freekick, which rolled under the wall, saying that it was something they worked on and prepared ahead of the game, and said:
"I did my homework and got told that if no one is lying down, then maybe I can have a chance to hit it under the wall. No one was lying down so I tried it and it worked out."
When quizzed about his conversation with Mohamed Salah for the freekick, he added:
"Well we will always discuss it. He asked me if I want to take it, I said yes because I checked if no one is laying down I'm going to take it under the wall. He said 'OK then take it' and yeah I scored."
Cody Gakpo sealed the win for Liverpool with an injury-time goal to make it 3-0. The win has helped the Reds sit fourth in the UEFA Champions League table with 15 points, but they are not guaranteed a place in the top eight going into the final game next week.
Dominik Szoboszlai delighted to have Liverpool teammate back
Dominik Szoboszlai has commented on the return of Mohamed Salah from AFCON, saying that he is delighted to have the Egyptian back in the matchday squad. He praised the Liverpool forward for his contribution and said:
"I'm really happy that he's back. He's helping the team on the pitch but off the pitch as well. As you know I'm really close with him, and I just like to play with him because he showed so many times that he has the quality to change games. And even though he didn't have a goal or assist today, still he was working hard. Sometimes you have to close our eyes and work hard for the team and probably next game he will score or assist someone."
Liverpool travel to face Bournemouth next in the Premier League, before hosting Qarabag in the final UEFA Champions League game next week.
