Arsenal could renew their interest in Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez after the season, journalist David Ornstein has suggested.
The North London side considered a move for the former Manchester City frontman last summer before signing Viktor Gyokeres in a £55m deal from Sporting CP.
With the Swedish international scoring just five Premier League goals in 20 appearances, Arsenal could reportedly pursue another forward this summer, with Alvarez potentially remaining on the list.
The Gunners could make room for a new arrival up front by selling one of Mikel Arteta’s current options, which include Gyokeres, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz.
Arsenal May Return for Julian Alvarez

Ornstein, speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Show, revealed that Arsenal were considering Alvarez in the summer and may target an attacking signing after the season:
“Arsenal were considering Julian Alvarez in the summer. His name came up. You could see that sort of player coming into Arsenal. If there’s going to be outward manoeuvring, then there is definitely scope for an arrival [in attacking positions].”
Alvarez spent two-and-a-half years in England with Manchester City, winning two Premier League titles and a Champions League in 2022/23, Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning season.
The Argentina international netted 36 times in 103 appearances for City and has already surpassed that tally in 18 months at Atletico Madrid.
Alvarez, praised as ‘best player in the world’, has netted 40 times in 85 games for Diego Simeone’s side, including 11 goals in 28 appearances this season.
His recent run of form in La Liga has concerned many Atletico supporters, as the striker has failed to find the back of the net in his last nine games.
Arsenal Set for Quiet January Window
Andrea Berta
After welcoming eight new players last summer, Arsenal appear set for a fairly quiet January transfer window, with no major incomings anticipated.
The Gunners are even looking to trim Arteta’s squad, having agreed to loan out Ethan Nwaneri to Marseille, while Oleksandr Zinchenko is expected to complete a permanent move to Ajax.
New signings are more likely once the season concludes, with Real Madrid starlet Victor Valdepenas eyed as a potential summer target.
According to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are considering a move for the highly-rated 19-year-old, whose future remains in Real’s hands.
