Report: 'World-class' Liverpool star set to leave club as transfer decision made

Andy Robertson looks set to leave Liverpool at the end of the season when his contract expires, according to Football Insider.

The Scotland veteran has been at Anfield since 2017 when he arrived from Hull City, and he has been a regular at the club ever since, lifting two Premier League titles, the Champions League, two Carabao Cups and an FA Cup, to go down as one of the best signings in the club's modern history.

But his contract at the club is now set to expire in the summer, and with no agreement in place to extend his stay currently, it looks as though he will be departing the Merseyside club at the end of the current campaign.

Liverpool to Let Robertson Leave for Free

Robertson, who has been described as 'world-class', has found himself on the bench more often than not this season after Arne Slot brought in Milos Kerkez last summer for the left-back position.

But the 31-year-old has been called upon a fair few times to help due to a number of injury concerns and also the poor form of the Hungarian. However, the long-term plan is for Kerkez to become the first-choice in the squad, and that means Robertson's influence is likely to dwindle.

A number of European clubs are said to be keeping a close eye on his situation, while Celtic are also showing a strong interest in taking him back to his home nation, and there is a growing expectation that Robertson will be allowed to leave for nothing.

While speaking to Football Insider, former scout Mick Brown commented on the situation, and revealed that the club feel it is the right time for him to move on.

“It looks like Robertson will be leaving Liverpool.

“Liverpool seem to have accepted that they’ve had the best of him and now is the time to move on, with Kerkez obviously brought in for that reason."

Liverpool Have Contract Decisions to Make

Robertson's contract situation is one that needs to be decided sooner rather than later, but he isn't the only one in that position.

Defender Ibrahima Konate is also out of contract this summer and there is no agreement in sight for an extension, while the club will also have Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, Alisson, Curtis Jones and Joe Gomez entering the final 12 months of their deal too.

The board will have to make some big decisions in the coming months, but it does now seem that the Reds have made peace with losing at least one key star in 2026.
