Virgil van Dijk and Joe Hart in complete agreement about Alisson after what he did vs Marseille

Liverpool are one step closer to the Champions League last-16 after their dominant win over Marseille.

The Reds will earn a double-figure cash boost if they progress to the knockout stages of the competition.

Wednesday’s 3-0 win brought them to within three points of guaranteeing their place, and Alisson had a key role in the victory.

Of course, Milos Kerkez was a standout and Arne Slot needs credit for the system change that benefited a number of players, including Mohamed Salah.

However, the heroics of Alisson between the sticks should not and have not gone under the radar.

Alisson shone for Liverpool vs Marseille

Former Manchester City and England goalkeeper Joe Hart covered the game as a pundit for TNT Sports.

During the clash, Hart praised Alisson for some big saves he made to keep a usually high-scoring Marseille at bay.

He said: “When Marseille did [attack], Alisson came out with a big save. You’ve got to do that in away games, especially in the Champions League. But he proved his worth.”

Now, speaking post-match, as per Laprovence, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has been similarly positive about how the South American played on Wednesday, saying he was at his best across the 90 minutes.

He said: “Marseille is a very good team, very good players, very good managers, we had to be very good, defensively we were very good, offensively we could have been better, they had some chances as well, we needed Ali at his best, but overall I’m very pleased with tonight’s performance.”

Liverpool have Alisson transfer decision to make

The 33-year-old has been so important to Liverpool since his move from AS Roma in 2018.

Along with the likes of Van Dijk and Salah, the shot-stopper helped transform Jurgen Klopp’s side from a team struggling to make the top four to Premier League and European champions.

However, Alisson’s future has been cast into doubt going into the summer transfer window.

Giorgi Mamardashvili arrived in 2024, and it seemed likely he would replace the keeper as Liverpool’s number one.

That has not happened so far, and based on the Marseille display, it may not be in the Reds’ best interests to part ways with the long-time shot-stopper in the coming months.
