Jamie Carragher and his mum enjoyed a heart-warming phone conversation during CBS Sports' coverage of Wednesday evening's Champions League fixtures. The touching moment occurred after Liverpool cruised to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Marseille away from home to strengthen their prospects of reaching the knockout rounds.
The triumph elevated Arne Slot's side to fourth position in the league standings and left them excellently placed to secure direct qualification to the last 16. Liverpool face Qarabag at Anfield in their concluding fixture next week.
Dominik Szoboszlai broke the deadlock during first-half stoppage time before Geronimo Rulli's own goal provided additional comfort. During the closing moments of the match in France, Cody Gakpo's first strike in four outings completed a flawless night.
Featuring on the customary Champions League studio panel with Micah Richards, Thierry Henry and host Kate Scott, Carragher was analysing his former club's commanding victory when he disclosed he had received a message from his mother, Paula.
"Oh my god what a win," the text read. "Been to the theatre with Angela. Just seen the score, made up," reports the Mirror. As he prepared to reply by text, Richards urged Carragher to get his mum on the phone live on television.
Paula picked up the call and mentioned she had just attended a theatrical performance. Carragher then informed her she was live on American television, prompting her to exclaim: "You're joking me!".
Richards, who frequently engages in playful exchanges with Carragher that become popular on social media, then seized the phone to greet her, presenting himself as "Big Meeks" and enquiring whether she recognised him.

"Oh get away, I feel embarrassed now," she replied, while laughing. Carragher then told his mum who he was with, before Arsenal legend Henry said: "Hello mummy, how are you?".
The studio then erupted in laughter when Paula was heard addressing the Frenchman as "Tiary". Carragher's mum then offered her apologies and bid her farewells, confessing she had enjoyed a few drinks during her night out.
She concluded by declaring: "Good night America."
The moment has since become an internet sensation with supporters on social media, one commenting: "Jamie Carragher's mum sounds right sound!".
Another remarked: "Legend Paula," while one noted: "Tiary cracked me up! How lovely was that!" A fourth observed: "That spontaneous segment made my day," and another commented: "This might be one of the most wholesome moments in the history of live TV."
