Chelsea talent eyed by Wolves and Chris Wilder before January deadline, told he's 'free to leave' - journalist

Chelsea have already waved goodbye to two players during the January transfer window and plenty more are expected before the deadline, with Frankie Runham set for a departure.

Leo Castledine’s stunning form at Huddersfield, which saw him score 12 goals in the first half of the season, saw him earn a move to Middlesbrough. Facundo Buonanotte’s loan spell has been cancelled.

The Argentine chose Chelsea over Leeds in the summer but now, the Brighton ace has moved to Elland Road until the end of the season. Then, there is Runham, who is set to complete a move to Ipswich.

Runham’s move is a loan, but with an obligation that is likely to depend on Ipswich earning promotion. Now, another Chelsea talent is being linked with the exit door after being told he can leave this month.

Harry McGlinchey told he can leave, one Premier League suitor

Harry McGlinchey, 18, has failed to make the step up to the U21 side so far after more than 25 outings for the U18 side at Cobham. The Ireland U19 star has entered the final 18 months of his Chelsea contract.

Now, transfer expert Pete O’Rourke has reported on X that McGlinchey has been told he can leave the club, less than four years after joining Chelsea’s academy from League One side Plymouth in 2022.

O’Rourke reports that Premier League side Wolves are interested in landing McGlinchey, though it is likely he will be seen as a long-term addition. Chris Wilder’s Sheffield United and Birmingham City are keen.

“Wolves, Sheffield United, and Birmingham City are all battling for a Chelsea left-back Harry McGlinchey. The 18-year-old has been told he is free to leave Chelsea this month with a sell-on clause to be included.”

Which other players could leave Chelsea before the deadline?

Liam Rosenior has already suggested that Axel Disasi will remain for now, but Raheem Sterling is in talks with Chelsea about an exit. Ostracised England star Sterling is a target for next week’s opponents Napoli.

Elsewhere, Filip Jorgensen has been linked with West Ham and Bayer Leverkusen. But Rosenior declared himself “devastated” on Wednesday night that Jorgensen had picked up an injury in the win over Pafos.

It sounds like the injury could prevent Jorgensen from leaving before the deadline. Decisions are also expected soon for out-on-loan duo Kendry Paez and David Datro Fofana, at Strasbourg and Karagumruk.

Gary O’Neil is a fan of Paez but his game time is limited, while Celtic are among the clubs pursuing £10m striker Fofana. Jeremy Jacquet looks like the only possible addition, but plenty could leave Chelsea soon.
