Liverpool’s Champions League performances have been much better than their Premier League displays this term.
Talk of Arne Slot being sacked had to be quashed by the club once more following the 1-1 draw with Burnley at Anfield last weekend.
As a result, the mood around Liverpool was low ahead of their return to European action.

But to Slot’s credit, he made a key tweak to his team that more than paid off and allowed them to beat Marseille 3-0.
Liverpool are now fourth in the Champions League table and have a fairly easy final game against Qarabag FK to round off their group phase fixtures.
Liverpool favourites for Champions League over Arsenal
They are not the only English side enjoying success in Europe this season, however, with all of Arsenal, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea also sitting in the top eight following the latest gameweek.
Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, who look set to take the Premier League crown away from Liverpool this term, top the Champions League table.

But when speaking to talkSPORT, Jermaine Pennant has said Slot’s side have a better chance of winning Europe’s premier competition this term.
He said: “I genuinely do [think Liverpool have a better chance of winning than Arsenal] because Liverpool are six-time Champions League winners. They’ve got the pedigree. They know what it is to get there, to win it. And over a two-legged game, I think Liverpool would beat Arsenal.
“I would say more chance. More chance of winning it than Arsenal. Because they’ve won it six times. They’ve got the pedigree to, the know-how. So when it gets to that stage, you know, they know how to get across it.”

Supercomputer disagrees with Jermaine Pennant’s Liverpool Champions League verdict
While Pennant is expecting big things from his former side, Opta’s supercomputer suggests it’s Arsenal who are most likely to go on and win the competition.
Arsenal have a 30.75% chance of lifting the trophy, nearly double that of second-place Bayern Munich (16.75%).
Manchester City, despite not currently being in the top eight, are third favourites (8.81%).
Liverpool then take fourth place, with a marginally smaller chance of winning the Champions League than City (8.48%)
