Tottenham has reportedly slapped a huge price tag on Micky van de Ven as links with a move to Liverpool begin to grow.
A new center-back is likely to be high on the shopping list for Arne Slot and Richard Hughes, even if they choose not to make a move in the current transfer window. With Ibrahima Konate’s contract set to expire in the summer, it will be a priority to find a potential replacement for the Frenchman, while a long-term heir to Virgil van Dijk could be sought, with the Reds’ captain just 18 months away from seeing his own deal come to an end.
With Marc Guehi now out of the picture after his move to Manchester City, Liverpool will have to look at alternatives, with Van de Ven’s name emerging as possible option.

According to the Daily Mail, the Reds may look to test Tottenham’s resolve in the summer, with Van de Ven said to be resisting any attempts from his current club to hold talks over a contract extension.
The 24-year-old, who will be expected to play alongside Van Dijk for the Netherlands at this year’s World Cup, is under contract in north London until 2029, and Spurs seemingly have no plans on letting him go easily.
TalkSPORT claims that Tottenham values Van de Ven in excess of £100 million ($134M). The defender is said to be pushing to leave the club in the summer in order to join an “elite” club in the Premier League or in Europe, which could help Liverpool’s cause.

It is suggested, however, that the Reds are unlikely to repeat their spending spree from last summer, having broken their own transfer records for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, with the latter also becoming the Premier League’s most expensive signing of all time.
The report comes amid ongoing tensions at Spurs, with manager Thomas Frank’s future still looking uncertain despite a win over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
Van de Ven has been involved in a couple of flashpoints this season, having snubbed Frank when the Dane tried to shake his hand after a defeat to Chelsea in November, although it was revealed that the defender apologized a day later for his actions.

And earlier this month, Van de Ven was seen involved in heated discussions with Tottenham fans after a 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth, with a member of Spurs’ backroom staff forced to step in to usher him away.

Liverpool.com says: It would be an odd move from Liverpool to let Guehi go to City on the cheap before throwing that kind of money on Van de Ven. Then again, any sort of move is going to look strange after the failure to land Guehi.
Still, it's a lot of money to spend on a defender, especially one who hasn't got the best injury record. Expect plenty more names to be linked with Liverpool before the summer arrives.
