Chelsea cannot sell midfield star because of the “character” he shows “in almost every match”

Enzo Fernandez has been linked (not very convincingly) with moves away from Chelsea in the last week, and on the London is Blue podcast they discussed their thoughts on a potential move.

“There are rumours this week that he’s looking to leave Chelsea and all that sort of stuff, I don’t know if any of that is for real or not, it’s really hard to tell,” presenter Nick Verlaney said.

“But I do know that he has come a hell of a long way over the last season and a half to endear himself to Chelsea supporters. Long may it continue. He is one of the few players that you know from a character perspective is going to show up in the same way in almost every match.

“I think when Reece James is not in the team his status becomes even more important because he is one of the leaders of the group.”

We have to agree with that. We hate the way he bitches and moans to referees and play-acts sometimes, but you can’t deny that he shows belief and passion every time he steps on the pitch, and has a will to win that a lot of the rest of the group don’t regularly show.

Losing him without finding a good replacement in personality terms just as much as football terms would be a huge blow.
