Chelsea are considering making a move to sign midfielder Douglas Luiz for the remainder of the season, football.london understands.

The 27-year-old is currently on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus but has featured just 13 times so far this season. Luiz moved from Aston Villa to Juve in the summer of 2024 after spending five years at Villa Park.

The Blues are now considering a deal to bring the Brazilian to Stamford Bridge for the remainder of the campaign. Romeo Lavia is out injured and when Liam Rosenior was asked about the midfielder recently, he refused to put a timeframe on when the Belgian would return.

Dario Essugo, meanwhile, has struggled with injury problems since moving to Chelsea in the summer and has not been in the squad for the last two matches against Brentford and Pafos. Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos are Chelsea's three orthodox central midfield options at the time of writing, though the likes of Reece James, Malo Gusto and Josh Acheampong can all fill in there.

Elsewhere, the west Londoners remain locked in talks with Rennes over a deal to sign defender Jeremy Jacquet. The 20-year-old defender has emerged as the Blues' top centre-back target this month but no significant progress has been made in direct club-to-club talks over recent days. Rennes are reluctant to lose Jacquet midway through a season, while Chelsea are trying to persuade the French club to give Rosenior another option in the defence.

Tyrique George could leave Chelsea before the January transfer window concludes. The 19-year-old winger has admirers from the Premier League and abroad, and is open to leaving Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis. However, there is nothing imminent regarding George's potential departure.

Academy starlet Ato Ampah has significant interest in his signature. Sources have told football.london that the 19-year-old is a target for several Championship sides and also has potential suitors in Italy. There is keen interest in both a permanent and loan deal for Ampah, who signed a contract extension at Stamford Bridge last summer.
