Liverpool have a big decision to make regarding the long-term future of the player this winter

Liverpool won 3-0 away at Marseille in the Champions League on Wednesday night in their latest outing. They are back in action this weekend with a Premier League trip to AFC Bournemouth. The Reds are sat in fourth place in the table behind Arsenal, Manchester City and Aston Villa.

Arne Slot’s side were busy on the recruitment front last summer and delved into the market to sign the likes of Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, among others. They have the opportunity to bring in some more new faces this winter. The January transfer window shuts on Monday 2nd February.

Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas wanted by Nottingham Forest

Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas is on Nottingham Forest’s ‘shortlist’ this month, according to The Athletic. He was loaned out to Roma last year but his future in Italy is up in the air at the moment. The left-back’s contract at Anfield expires in June 2027 meaning he still has over 12 months left to run down.

Tsimikas, 29, became surplus to requirements after Milos Kerkez’s arrival from Bournemouth. Prior to that, he battled it out with Andy Robertson for a place in Slot’s starting XI. The Greece international, who has 47 caps to his name, joined the Reds back in 2020.

He has made 115 appearances for them in all competitions. The full-back rose up through the ranks at Olympiacos and went on to play 86 games for their first-team in his early career. He also had loan spells away at Esbjerg and Willem II to get some experience under his belt.

What now for Kostas Tsimikas at Liverpool?

Liverpool have a decision to make regarding Tsimikas. His temporary switch to Roma hasn’t worked out for him and it remains to be seen what will happen to him next. A change of scene would probably do him good.

He said in an interview recently, as per The Athletic: “You never know (what will happen). The most important thing for me is to be healthy, to train hard, to play more games. Next year is a different story for me. I want to be successful, I want to win things. Only God knows what will happen in the next year.

“I miss the city (of Liverpool). I lived there for five years. I love everything in Liverpool. They have a special part of my heart. The people are very kind, some of the kindest I’ve ever met in football. They’d always try to support the team, in good, in bad, they would always do their best to try to help you. I want everything for this club, because from day one, I was fully committed there. I was the Greek Scouser and I always will be, I’ll keep it for my whole life."

Nottingham Forest could see Tsimikas as someone to boost their defensive department. If he joined them, he would give them more competition and depth at the back. Sean Dyche’s side are in a relegation battle and are positioned in 17th.
