Another new Liverpool partnership is set to flourish vs Bournemouth after Jeremie Frimpong admission - opinion

Liverpool are finally starting to see their summer of heavy spending pay off as new teammates begin to get used to each other’s games.

The Reds arguably changed far too much over the course of the summer, leaving an array of signings to bed in in difficult circumstances.

Although some had already written off the likes of Florian Wirtz, Alexander Isak, Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez, they have all begun to show their worth to varying degrees.

Wirtz has struck up an exciting partnership with Hugo Ekitike, and when Isak returns from injury the hope will be that he can play his part in that, too.

Meanwhile, Frimpong was voted as Liverpool’s worst summer signing by Rousing The Kop readers, but since coming back from injury in December he has looked like a different player. And with Conor Bradley out injured and Mohamed Salah back from the Africa Cup of Nations, the Dutchman can finally nail down another potential new partnership at Liverpool.

Jeremie Frimpong building an understanding with Mohamed Salah

Liverpool’s right-hand side was virtually untouched for the best part of a decade until this summer, as Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold learned the ins and outs of each other’s game.

Given the injury troubles for Bradley and Frimpong and Salah’s well-publicised issues, Arne Slot has not been able to count on such continuity.

But as Frimpong told LFCTV after Wednesday’s win over Marseille, he and Salah are now building up a good understanding with each other on the Liverpool right.

“I think me and Mo had good communication,” said the 25-year-old. “Sometimes he went out wide, I went in, sometimes I was outside, sometimes he was in.”

Slot will have a chance to continue fostering the budding partnership when the Reds travel to face Bournemouth on Saturday evening. He has to start both to continue building that rhythm.

Frimpong partnership could save Salah’s Liverpool career

It was always going to take Liverpool players – old and new – some time to click this season. But while this could be simply another false dawn, they do look to be finally getting the best out of each other.

For Salah, his on-pitch relationship with Frimpong could hold extra weight in that it may potentially be the key to saving his career with the Reds.

As things stand, it would be a surprise if the Egyptian did not move on at the end of the current campaign. But with another year still left on his contract, that should not be inevitable.

Working together with Frimpong could help Salah bring something extra out of his game and make Liverpool see that they should continue picking him in the strongest XI.

After a tricky season for these two players so far, Bournemouth coming so quick on the back of an impressive display in Marseille could be the turning point both have been searching for.
