Liverpool are now prepared to pay in the region of £80m to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton in the summer transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.
It's been a quiet January transfer window for Liverpool so far, which is perhaps not surprising after they spent significantly in the summer last year. There are a few gaps that Arne Slot's side could do with plugging at the moment, but it's more down to injuries rather than players desperately needed.
It's been a disappointing campaign for the Reds so far, particularly after winning the Premier League title last season. As a result, the hierarchy might be tempted to invest in the playing squad in the winter window, but they might be better off keeping their powder dry until the summer, when there are better value deals to be had.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Liverpool would be keen on trying to secure the signature of Wharton in the summer transfer window, if a deal can be done for a fee of around £80m. It's claimed that there is a growing expectation that Wharton will leave Crystal Palace later this year, while Liverpool are expected to face plenty of competition for his signature.
Described as a 'superstar' by Transfermarkt, Wharton could become the next man to head through the exit door at Selhurst Park, with Marc Guehi leaving, Oliver Glasner confirming his departure at the end of the season, and Jean-Philippe Mateta signalling his intention to leave.
