Report: Chelsea no longer want Liverpool star out of contract in the summer

Liverpool are rapidly running out of time to renew Ibrahima Konate’s contract before its expiry.

The Reds recently saw Marc Guehi move from Crystal Palace to Manchester City after he almost moved to Anfield on Deadline Day.

Recently, talk has also increased around Liverpool making a move for Micky van de Ven, although his asking price is huge.

Liverpool are clearly in for a lot of change in the centre-back department given that they are yet to replace Jarell Quansah, who moved to Bayer Leverkusen in the summer for £25m.

“A lot of teams” are keeping close tabs on Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that there are a lot of teams investigating signing Konate in the summer if he doesn’t agree a new deal with the Reds.

“*A lot of teams are looking at Konate,*” Brown told Football Insider.

“Chelsea were one of those, but the general feeling is, if he’s making mistakes at the back for Liverpool, he’s going to make the same mistakes for them.

“They want somebody who is more solid and dependable, maybe a younger option as well.

“Konate has made too many costly mistakes playing in what largely has been a very good Liverpool side, so in a team who aren’t quite as solid, it could only get worse.

“So for a team like Chelsea where they’re looking to improve and establish themselves maybe as title contenders, I don’t think he’s what they need.

“I expect they’re going to pull away from this one, so where that leaves Konate is unclear, because he isn’t doing himself any favours so far this season.”

Liverpool not willing to meet Konate’s contract demands – what next?

Unless Konate is willing to accept Liverpool’s offer – which is obviously lower than his demands – he will leave for free at the end of the season.

Konate is out of contract on 30 June 2026 and so Liverpool really are running out of time.

The Frenchman has struggled for form this season, although his performances have improved in the last month or so.

Liverpool are after best in class performers, and unfortunately, Konate hasn’t been able to convince them that he is worth the top-tier wages this season.
