Man United and Man City are both amongst the top 10 clubs in the world in terms of revenue.

There is no doubting that both Man United and Man City are two of the biggest clubs in world football, and two of the richest clubs in the world. The Red Devils have one of the largest fanbases globally, which is likely down to their sustained period of success under Sir Alex Ferguson between 1986 and 2013.

As far as City are concerned, their recent history has shot them up in terms of global stature, especially considering some of the players and seasons they have overseen under the likes of Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini, and, most importantly, Pep Guardiola.

Club revenue comes down to broadcast earnings, matchday earnings, advertising, transfer strategy and also prize money when clubs win trophies. The latter has been an issue for United in recent years, but quite the opposite for Man City.

How rich are Man United and Man City?

One of the most telling data sets in football is revenue for European football clubs, and the two Manchester clubs are consistently in the top 10 of the Deloitte Football Money League, but how did they do for the 2024-25 season?

Man United reportedly earned €793.1m in 2024-25, which drops them down to eighth on the list of football clubs globally, which is a drop-off considering they were fourth in the previous year. Some of their drop-off has likely come down to the recent transfer failings under Erik Ten Hag.

Man City, on the other hand, earned €829.3m in revenue in 2024-25, which puts them sixth on the list. That is also a drop-off, as they came in second to just Real Madrid in the previous season. It also means they are no longer the biggest-earning Premier League club, as Liverpool has overtaken them.

How do Man United and City’s rivals rank?

In terms of the rankings, Real Madrid remains the richest club in the world, as they were the only club to surpass the 1 billion revenue mark in 2024-25. Their La Liga rivals Barcelona are ranked second, earning €974.8m, ahead of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich (€860.6m), and Champions League winners PSG (€837m).

As mentioned, Liverpool (€836.1m) was the richest Premier League club last year, but they only came in fifth, which really shows that England was reliant on the Manchester clubs to compete with their fellow European giants.

Other Premier League clubs in the rankings include Arsenal, which came in above Man United, which shows the drop-off from the Red Devils. The Gunners ranked seventh, earning €821.7m between 2024 and 2025.

Tottenham (€672.6m) and Chelsea (€584.1m) made up the top 10, as both Premier League clubs reported decent earnings for last year, but their lack of consistent Champions League football over the past few years has likely hindered their development financially.
