The January transfer window is in full swing, with Liverpool continuing to be linked with several potential signings as the February 2 deadline approaches.

After missing out on Marc Guehi and Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City, attention has shifted to other targets, including Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton, Wolves’ Andre and Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck.

Wataru Endo is being linked with a move away from Liverpool, with Ajax reportedly interested in the defensive midfielder. Meanwhile, Liverpool defender Kostas Tsimikas is also attracting interest, with Nottingham Forest said to be monitoring the left-back who is currently on loan at AS Roma.

Harvey Elliott’s future remains uncertain. The Liverpool midfielder joined Aston Villa on loan last summer, with the move set to become permanent if he reaches a certain number of appearances.

However, Elliott has featured just five times in all competitions this season, and earlier this month Unai Emery admitted Villa were “not convinced” about making the deal permanent.

“We have the issue with Harvey Elliott. Again, I am respecting all I can because he is a very good guy, a professional and respectful guy,” Villa boss Emery explained.

“The situation he has with us is something I must take a decision on, but trying not to damage the player as less as possible. He deserves the best for him. After it, if he is leaving, we can maybe try to use the position he is [in] to let us work something [in the market].

“Until now, we only signed Alysson because we believe in his potential. Of course, we are opening the door for as well some players with more experience. But with the players we have, how they are performing and getting their level, I am so happy.”

Emery added: “The problem we have with Harvey is that he is on loan, and in case he plays matches we must buy him. We decided two months ago that we are not convinced to sign him, spending the money we would need to.

“This is the only issue. He is training every day with very good behaviour and to help us in training sessions. This is not something good for us and him, but this is football and sometimes we must make decisions.”

Charlotte FC head coach Dean Smith has told Sky Sports News that the club are interested in Elliott. The MLS transfer window runs from January 26 to March 26.

Smith said: “I put the feelers out, obviously, when I was over there. I was thinking about it and thought, there is an opportunity here. If he is not going to play at Villa and he can’t play anywhere else, then it would be an option for him to come and play some games up until the World Cup break.

“If he is not playing between now and the World Cup, it is a shame. There is an opportunity for him to come out and play here if that is what Liverpool or Villa wanted to do.”
