Liam Rosenior could add more experience to his Chelsea midfielder by recruiting a well-known Premier League star.
Chelsea could make a head-turning loan move for Juventus star Douglas Luiz before the end of the January window, despite the experienced midfielder struggling for minutes at relegation-threatened Nottingham Forest.
The 27-year-old, who has 183 Premier League appearances to his name, has been afforded just eight outings in the top flight in a frustrating campaign so far. Luiz has had thigh problems, which have not helped him at t he City Ground, but has become somewhat of a benchwarmer.
The former Aston Villa man has been an unused substitute on six occasions this season and started just four matches. Luiz left Villa Park to join Juventus in June 2024 on a £50 million deal and made 27 appearances across all competitions for the Serie A giants last season.
Chelsea linked with loan move for Nottingham Forest man
The Athletic carry reports of the potential Chelsea loan move. It’s claimed that he is seen as someone who could add experience to a young Chelsea side to aid the transition to life under Liam Rosenior.
Luiz also previously spent two years on the books at Manchester City but never made a first team appearance before breaking through at Aston Villa. The midfielder didn’t feature under Nuno Espirito Santo at Nottingham Forest this season but was handed four appearances by Ange Postecoglou. He’s been handed some cameo appearances by Sean Dyche but does not seem to be a vital part of Nottingham Forest’s fight for survival.
Rosenior is without the services of the injured Romeo Lavia at Chelsea with Cole Palmer still being carefully monitored given his injury issues this season. The links with a loan move for Douglas Luiz come in the same week when Enzo Fernandez had emerged as a potential summer target for Paris Saint-Germain.
Liam Rosenior confronts Enzo Fernandez rumours
The Chelsea manager has rubbished those claims. He said: “It means nothing to me. When you’re a world-class player, an outstanding player, there’s always going to be speculation that you can’t control.
“What I’ve said about Enzo on record is the case. He’s been outstanding in the time I’ve worked with him. He’s even surprised me in a good way in terms of what he did on Saturday to be ill, I know it was his birthday, but to be ill and cover the ground that he did, the way that he’s trained and the way that he’s performed.
“I’m speaking on the realities of the situation, which is he’s a Chelsea player. He’s very, very important to me. And I think we’re going to have a really, really good, hopefully winning relationship moving forward in the short term and the long term.”
