Chelsea explore shock move for Brazilian midfielder

Chelsea make the short trip across the capital to face London rivals Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues laboured to a narrow 1-0 win over Cypriot side Pafos in their penultimate match of the Champions League group phase on Wednesday, with midfielder Moises Caicedo netting the only goal of the game.

Liam Rosenior’s side now sit eighth in the Champions League group phase table, with plenty to play for in the final round of games.

Now, with the January transfer window coming to a close next week, it has emerged that Chelsea are exploring a shock move to sign a Premier League midfielder.

According to BBC Sport, the Blues are considering a surprise move to sign midfielder Douglas Luiz on loan for the remainder of the current season.

The Brazilian is currently on loan at Forest from Italian giants Juventus, but he has scarcely featured for Sean Dyche’s side so far this term.

Luiz, 27, has made just 14 appearances for Forest since joining on loan from the Old Lady last summer, providing one assist.

While the player is on loan at Forest, it is claimed that Chelsea have a good relationship with their Premier League counterparts, and Juventus are keen for the player to play regularly during the second half of the campaign.

Luiz previously enjoyed a hugely impressive spell in England with Aston Villa, making more than 200 appearances for the club after joining from Manchester City in 2019.

The midfielder departed Villa Park to join Juventus in 2024 but, despite making 27 appearances during his debut season in Italy, the midfielder returned to England last summer when he joined Forest on loan.

It is claimed that Luiz has been identified as a player that could add experience to Rosenior’s squad, as well as providing cover for fellow midfielder Romeo Lavia, who has suffered with frequent injury problems since joining Chelsea.
