Jason Kidd drops cryptic Kyrie Irving injury update for Mavericks

According to the Mavs coach, Irving (ACL) has no timeline for return yet for the Mavs.

The comeback of Kyrie Irving is still up in the air for the Dallas Mavericks.

Dallas Mavericks / Schedule

In his pregame media address before their Thursday showcase against the Golden State Warriors, head coach Jason Kidd revealed that Irving has no definite timetable for return from ACL injury, but they are aiming at the post-All-Star break for the next schedule of announcement about the star guard.

“Well, there isn’t anything new," Kidd told reporters. "I know there’s a lot of speculation going on. But he’s working extremely hard from the rehab. Spending some time with him yesterday, he’s in good spirits and he feels great. At some point, there will be a timeline. But right now, there is no timeline

"Don’t take this out of context, but he wants to get back, he wants to play. But when you’re coming back from an ACL, it’s a time thing. ... At some point there will be a schedule. It will probably be after All-Star break."

Irving sustained a torn left ACL injury in March last year. He has yet to play this 2025-26 season as he continues his rehabilitation.

There were rumors that the Mavericks might not let him play this year, depending on their position in the standings. Entering the matchup against Golden State, Dallas is currently 12th in the West with an 18-26 record.

But Kidd made it clear that the team's standings won't impact the possibility of Irving's return this season.

"It has nothing to do with it," Kidd argued. "It's about, for him, mentally and physically, being able to play at the highest level. And in his mind, no one else's."
