Appearing on NBA on Prime, NBA insider Chris Haynes reported that the embattled young forward is still seeking to leave the Warriors ahead of the Feb. 5 trade deadline.
"Sources have informed me that Kuminga has no desire to remain a member of the Golden State Warriors and is hoping to be dealt by the deadline," he said. "I’m told his relationship with head coach Steve Kerr has fractured beyond repair. He’s felt he hasn’t had organizational support throughout this process and has felt devalued by the organization.
"Again, the Warriors have been telling us publicly that it just hasn’t been a good fit with Kuminga and the team."
Following the season-ending torn ACL of Jimmy Butler, Kuminga finds himself back in the Warriors' lineup. He dropped 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting, along with five rebounds and two assists in 21 minutes in the Warriors' 145-127 Tuesday loss against the Toronto Raptors.
That marked his first appearance since 16 consecutive DNPs from head coach Steve Kerr.
In just the first day of his trade eligibility way back in Jan. 15, Kuminga instantly demanded to get traded. But recently, Golden State general manager Mike Dunleavy made headlines for emphasizing that there hasn't been a significant market demand for the 23-year-old.
It remains to be seen what would unfold for Kuminga, as it all comes down to the Warriors' final decision and how he'll show off in the remaining games leading to the deadline.
"This is going to be a critical few weeks for Kuminga and the Warriors," Haynes argued. "Something could get done, but at the end of the day, something also may not get done."
